In search of Arroyo family

Hello!

I am new to this forum and I would appreciate any information about where I can search for my husband's surname, Arroyo.

He can trace his great-great-grandfather, Matias Arroyo to about 1830 in Puerto Rico, but it is there that the search ends. We have no idea of where to look next. Can anyone tell me approximately when the Jews from Portugal or Spain left during the years of the Inquisition to go to the Islands in the Caribbean?

My husband, Daniel Arroyo, was raised as a Protestant and converted to Judaism in 2004. He always "felt" like he was Jewish and he knows very little about his family. We have been told that if the family really was Jewish and was forced to convert, they chose Protestantism rather than Catholicism because they probably did not want to worshsip icons, idols, etc.

Any help would be kindly appreciated. We only speak English but I can use Google Translator to read any responses.

Very sincerely,
Lynn Troyansky Arroyo
